Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using MacDrop on set and in post-production.

Why does MacDrop need access to Google Drive?
MacDrop requires Google Drive OAuth permissions strictly to stream and upload camera media files into your personal Google Drive or Shared Team Drives, and to allow you to select remote destination folders without leaving the app. MacDrop never accesses, modifies, or shares any unrelated files on your Drive.
Does my footage touch any intermediate server?
No. MacDrop operates completely peer-to-cloud. The upload occurs directly over TLS encrypted connections between your local Mac and Google Cloud's ingestion endpoints. No intermediary servers, third-party relays, or telemetry collectors exist.
What memory cards and camera formats are supported?
MacDrop supports all standard filesystem storage media: CFexpress Type A & B, CFast 2.0, SDXC (UHS-I & UHS-II), micro-SD, external SSDs (Thunderbolt & USB-C), and camera volumes from RED, ARRI, Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Blackmagic Design, and DJI.
How does xxHash verification protect my media?
Unlike plain file copies, MacDrop computes 64-bit checksums using the SIMD-optimized xxHash algorithm simultaneously during read and write. It compares the checksum of the destination copy against the source block-by-block. If even a single byte differs (e.g. from an unstable cable or faulty card reader), the job flags the error instantly.
How do I install MacDrop on macOS Sequoia or Sonoma?
Download the official .dmg from our Download page, drag MacDrop into your Applications folder, and launch it. For direct developer builds, you can double-click the included Deblocheaza_MacDrop.command script in the DMG or run xattr -cr /Applications/MacDrop.app once.
