Privacy Policy for MacDrop

Effective Date: October 21, 2026 • Version 1.0

1. Overview

MacDrop is a native macOS desktop utility created by Laurentiu Kotlacsik. The application is built to assist filmmakers, digital imaging technicians (DITs), and photographers with offloading high-resolution camera media from memory cards to local storage and authorized cloud destinations like Google Drive.

We believe in absolute data sovereignty. MacDrop operates strictly client-side on your local Mac. We run no intermediate proxy servers, cloud relays, user databases, or third-party tracking services. All file transfers occur directly between your machine and Google's official cloud storage endpoints.

2. Data We Access via Google OAuth

When you choose to connect your Google Drive account, MacDrop requests the following OAuth permission scope:

  • Google Drive Access (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive): Used solely to enumerate directories and files in locations you navigate to, stream files you explicitly select for offload, download items you choose to retrieve, and read file checksums for bit-perfect verification.
  • OAuth Credentials Storage: Access and refresh tokens issued by Google are encrypted and stored exclusively in your local Apple macOS Keychain using the native macOS Security framework. Tokens never leave your physical workstation.

3. Data Sharing & Third Parties

MacDrop does not sell, rent, lease, or share any personal data, Google credentials, or file contents with any third party.

  • We collect zero telemetry, analytics, or behavioral tracking data.
  • Your media files never route through any external or developer-owned server. Connections are made point-to-point via TLS 1.3 to www.googleapis.com.
  • We do not use Google Workspace user data or files to train, develop, or fine-tune machine learning or AI models.
  • We do not serve ads or share information with ad networks.

4. Google API Limited Use Disclosure

MacDrop's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. Revocation & Data Deletion

Because all data is stored locally on your Mac, you can delete your credentials at any moment:

  • Within MacDrop: select your connected Google account in the sidebar and click the Trash icon to instantly delete all OAuth tokens from your macOS Keychain.
  • Via Google: visit your Google Account Permissions page to revoke MacDrop's access with one click.

6. Security Measures

All network traffic between MacDrop and Google Drive is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS 1.3. On-disk authentication tokens are protected by Apple hardware-backed Keychain encryption.
